Tras el lanzamiento del álbum debut de los franco-luxemburgueses HOPESCURE nos ponemos en contacto con la banda para que nos cuenten sobre ellos y sobre su nuevo álbum.

M.S.: Hola! ¿Cómo estáis? Imagino que algo sorprendidos por todo lo que está pasando en Europa y en el mundo con el Covid-19…
Hola. Estamos bien en estas extrañas circunstancias. Gracias. Es una locura para la que nadie estaba preparado. De un día para otro, escuelas cerradas; tiendas y sobre todo todos los negocios y personas nos tenemos que quedar en casa. Parece una prisión dorada pero necesaria para mantener la propagación del virus. Nuestra principal preocupación, en estos tiempos es la salud y bienestar de todos. Nos preocupa la economía y lo que eso significará para cualquier tipo de negocio. La música hoy en día
se vuelve más importante porque como músico o simplemente como oyente, se puede encontrar el momento para crear o escuchar música, de ahí el enorme aumento de la distribución de música digital. Por otro lado, todo lo relacionado con la música en vivo se ha cancelado durante los próximos meses … El futuro es incierto. Esperamos encontrar normalidad pronto en todos los aspectos y poder ensayar juntos de nuevo y, por supuesto, hace audiciones para nuestro nuevo baterista.
M.S.: Contadnos sobre Hopescure, ¿Cuándo fundasteis la banda? ¿Cómo es vuestra música?
Hopescure se fundó en 2016 por Kevin Roy en guitarra, Patrice Diasio en bajo, Alex Klein en la batería y Andy Abrantes como vocalista. Años antes, Andy estaba en otra
banda de la que era guitarrista. Kevin vio un video de la banda de Andy y contactó con él sobre algo que había puesto a la venta de su equipo. Ambos se hicieron amigos por
años y siempre quisieron hacer música juntos pero nunca encontraron el momento de comenzar una banda debido a estudios, razones familiares, etc. Pero en 2016,
sintieron que era el momento adecuado, y obviamente siendo los dos grandes fanáticos de Dream Theater sabían que su música tenía que ir un poco en esa dirección. Luego encontraron a Alex y
más tarde a Patrice para formar la banda. La búsqueda de teclista no tuvo éxito, por lo que la banda decidió que Andy debería hacerse cargo de eso parte, ya que toca el piano, la guitarra y todo tipo de instrumentos. La banda entonces compuso sus primeras canciones y las orquestaciones fueron escritas junto a Andy estudio. Kevin también ayudó mucho en ese proceso.
Como es nuestra música nos gusta describirlo de la siguiente manera: nuestra música tiene belleza, alma y emoción Nos preguntamos cuál es la esencia de la música. Bueno, es emoción
¿Correcto? Entonces sabíamos que queríamos que nuestras canciones se basaran en emociones pero también transmitimos esa emoción y, por supuesto, nuestras canciones tenían que ser diversas. Hay algo para todo el mundo. Un fanático del hardcore encontrará melodías a su gusto, así como el fanático de la música pop hasta el fanático de la música clásica. Combinamos todas nuestras inspiraciones musicales y crear algo propio.
M.S.: Acabáis de sacar vuestro primer disco “Nostalgia Part.1”, ¿Qué nos podéis contar sobre él?
Así es. Después de muchos años de arduo trabajo, finalmente lo tenemos en nuestras manos, nuestro álbum. Estamos muy orgullosos de ello y es un gran logro para nosotros en todos los aspectos imaginables. Como se mencionó anteriormente, el álbum es muy diverso. Hay música que puede complacer a mucha gente de diferentes géneros musicales. Para «Nostalgia pt.1» como su nombre indica,
queríamos enfocarnos en un tipo de sonido nostálgico, por tanto, cada canción lleva el nombre de una emoción. El álbum es una historia que habla sobre los diferentes sentimientos que uno puede tener después de una ruptura o cuando un ser querido te abandona repentinamente y termina contigo. Eso te deja con muchas preguntas, sentimientos que cambian con el tiempo y aquí nuevamente,
Creemos que todos experimentaron de alguna manera cosas similares en su vida. También fue importante para nosotros mantener las letras de género neutral. No encontrará un «él» o «ella» en nuestro letras para que todos puedan relacionarse con las palabras y la música.
M.S.: Vuestro disco ha sido mezclado por Eric Gillette (The Neal Morse Band), ¿Cómo contactasteis con él y como fue el proceso de mezcla?
Mientras grabábamos nuestro álbum en el estudio casero de un amigo, decidimos que queríamos alguien que sabe mezclar y quizás también dominar nuestro álbum. Nosotros no
queremos que todo lo haga la misma persona, es decir, grabar, mezclar y masterizar Al principio para obtener una mente externa, abierta y fresca a la mezcla y al álbum. Contactamos con los principales estudios de Europa y revisamos nuestros álbumes favoritos para saber quién y dónde se mezclaron. A lo largo la investigación llegó Eric Gillette y Andy lo contactó por correo y Eric logró
para convencernos de que lo dejaramos hacer el trabajo. El proceso de mezcla fue más largo de lo esperado, pero para nosotros, queríamos hacer que nuestro álbum sonara lo mejor posible. Quedamos satisfechos con el resultado. La mezcla la hizo un amigo nuestro, donde grabamos el disco. Eso nos dio La posibilidad de tener un mayor control del sonido final.
M.S.: Me parece muy bonita la portada creada por Caio Caldas, ¿Cómo surgió la idea?
Bueno, en realidad estábamos totalmente enfocados en el proceso de escribir y crear música … Durante ese tiempo, había muchas cosas en que pensar. La idea de tener una portada se discutió a principios de 2018 porque necesitábamos material de calidad para nuestra página de Facebook, así como un logotipo de la banda. Patrice (bajo) comenzó a buscar en Internet. Se puso en contacto con una docena de gráficos. diseñadores de todo el mundo. El que se destacó no fue otro que Caio Caldas (https://cadiesart.com/home.php). Se estableció contacto con este artista brasileño. Obviamente nos hizo una muy buena pregunta que nadie en la banda había pensado … qué tipo de portada queríamos … Como te puedes imaginar, concebir un artwork a distancia no siempre es fácil y tuvimos
confiar en él que sabía lo que estaba haciendo. Dirigimos a Caios hacia esta portada que ejecutó brillantemente y todo por correo electrónico. Más adelante en 2019, la banda decidió lanzar un CD físico y Caios hizo el resto de la obra de arte para el álbum físico, que salió maravillosamente. Queríamos una portada que fuera interesante de ver con muchos detalles que reflejaran un cierto nostálgico Una vez más, los humanos que ves en la portada son de género neutral. Eso fue muy importante para nosotros para reflejar la música y las letras. Para el resto del diseño fue Caio Caldas quien ideó el diseño. Nos quedamos impresionados cuando nos envió el proyecto. Hizo un trabajo asombroso.
M.S.: “Nostalgia Part.1” evidencia que podrían haber más partes. ¿Será en el siguiente disco o lo reserváis para más adelante?
Nostalgia se escribió inicialmente como un álbum doble. La mayor parte de la música ya está escrita. o en las primeras etapas de desarrollo, por así decirlo. La historia que queríamos contar era más grande de un álbum. Inicialmente, queríamos lanzar un álbum doble. Durante la composición de las orquestaciones, el proyecto era demasiado ambicioso y demasiado grande para hacerlo,
todo sucede al mismo tiempo. Hubiéramos necesitado al menos un año más para terminar las canciones restantes y grabarlas. Cuando produjimos el álbum nosotros mismos, sería duplicar el presupuesto y no sacar nuestra música al mundo más. Así que decidimos dividir el concepto en dos partes y lanzar la primera mitad de Nostalgia. Ya estamos trabajando en Nostalgia Pt.2, que será nuestro próximo álbum en para cerrar ese capítulo y la historia ya que la mayor parte ya está escrita. Pero lo importante ahora, o digamos, después del encierro, es encontrar un nuevo batería para completar el proceso de composición.
M.S.: Escuchando vuestra música se nota la influencia de las bandas sonoras, de estructuras que van cambiando, las composiciones. ¿Cuáles son vuestras principales referencias e influencias?
Bueno, todos escuchamos todo tipo de música, desde heavy metal hasta música clásica. Hay tantos géneros musicales que son interesantes y nadie en el
la banda quiere limitarse a un solo aspecto. Andy, por ejemplo, ama la música oriental, árabe o incluso asiática para ser un gran fanático de Celine Dion. Y como podria no mencionaros a Hans Zimmer, uno de los mejores escritores de música de nuestro tiempo. Este es solo un ejemplo de cómo nuestros gustos musicales son diversos. Por supuesto, nuestro el terreno común es el rock progresivo, así que tomamos eso y agregamos nuestro musical individual gustos e inspiraciones. Las grandes influencias de Kevin son Brian May y Santana que hicieron él quiere tocar la guitarra. Creemos que esto se puede escuchar en nuestra música. Hay tantas referencias… principalmente diríamos Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Anathema, Myrath, Nightwish, Within Temptation, Queen … Como todos tienen tantos diferentes influencias, nuestras estructuras de canciones cambian mucho y las composiciones son a menudo complejas.
Sin embargo, siempre tratamos de hacer lo correcto para la canción y lo que haría que la canción La canción suena mejor o más íntima tal vez. Algunas canciones del álbum exigen un
melodía vocal más lineal para hacerlo más íntimo. Otra canción exige riffs pesados ??y solos de guitarra rápidos porque la emoción que queremos proyectar con eso una canción particular lo exige.
M.S.: El metal progresivo es un estilo con gran aceptación en el centro de Europa, ¿Qué nos podéis contar de la escena prog-metal en Francia?
El metal progresivo es un término tan diverso para un género musical que incorpora muchos aspectos y direcciones musicales de alguna manera. En Francia y en Luxemburgo,
El metal progresivo es bien conocido y existe una gran aceptación en Europa central. Solo mira cuantas personas van a un concierto de Dream Theater y
sabrás que hay una audiencia para ese género. También a menudo nos encontramos personas que no saben nada sobre metal progresivo y escuchan, por ejemplo, solo la música pop. Tan pronto como escuchan el término «metal», tienen miedo y imagina gruñidos y voces gritando con fuertes sonidos de guitarra. Pero felizmente, muchas personas desconocidas para el género metal se sorprendieron mucho al escuchar nuestro álbum y tenía una idea completamente equivocada sobre el metal progresivo o el metal en general. Y nosotros creemos que hay muchas más personas de esas que tienen miedo
de escuchar «metal» aún a un álbum que necesita más de una escucha para entender la música y escuchar todos sus matices que tiene para ofrecer. Esa es la belleza de
metal progresivo, está lleno de sorpresas y también es difícil de escuchar, pero gratificante una vez que lo entiendes.
M.S.: En la situación mundial en la que nos encontramos imagino que no hay fechas previstas de conciertos hasta que pase un poco todo esto, pero, ¿Nos podríais contar sobre vuestra experiencia en directo en los últimos años?
En efecto. Hemos programado un festival de metal en Luxemburgo en mayo, pero lo más seguro es que se cancele. Teníamos algo más en marcha, pero por el momento hay demasiada incertidumbre para planificar cualquier concierto. Tenemos uno en octubre que tenemos que saber, pero el futuro es incierto. Esperamos estar en el escenario tan pronto posible como todas las bandas del mundo. Esperemos lo mejor. Afortunadamente, tuvimos algunos conciertos pequeños alrededor de Luxemburgo y el norte de Francia en 2019 y un gran concierto de lanzamiento en Luxemburgo para el lanzamiento de nuestro álbum. Por suerte, esto fue todo antes de Covid-19, así que tenemos la suerte de haber lanzado nuestro álbum justo antes de eso y también pudimos tocar el álbum en vivo para nuestros fans.

M.S .: Hello! How are you? I imagine that somewhat surprised by everything that is happening in Europe and the world with the Covid-19 …
Hi. We’re doing fine under these strange circumstances. Thank you. It’s a crazy period that nobody was prepared for. From one day to another, schools were closed; shops and mostly every business and people have to stay at home. It kind a feels like a golden prison but a necessary one in order to keep the spreading of the virus controlled. Our main concern of course, in these times, is of course the health and wellbeing of everyone. We are of course concerned about economic repercussions and what that will mean for any sort of business. Music nowadays becomes more important because as a musician or simply a listener, you might find comfort in creating or listening to music hence the enormous increase of digital music distribution.On the other side, gigs, festivals, tours and pretty much everything that is related to live music has been cancelled for the next months… Future is uncertain. We hope to find normality soon again on every aspect and be able to rehearse together again and of course audition for our new drummer.
M.S .: Tell us about Hopescure, when did you create the band? How is your music?
Hopescure was founded in 2016 by Kevin Roy on guitar, Patrice Diasio on bass, Alex Klein on Drums and Andy Abrantes as vocalist. Years before, Andy was in another band and he was a guitar player too. Kevin saw a video once of Andy’sband and contacted Andy upon some guitar stuff he was selling. Both became friends over the years and they always wanted to do music together but they never found the right time to start a band because of studies, family reasons aso. But eventually, in 2016, they felt that the time was right and obviously, both big Dream Theater fans, they
knew that their music had to go somewhat in that direction. Then they found Alex and later Patrice to form the band. The search for a keyboard player remained unsuccessful so the band decided that Andy should take over that part, since he plays the piano, guitar and all sorts of instruments. The band then composed their first songs and the orchestrations were written alongside in Andy’s
studio. Kevin helped a lot too on that process.
How is our music? Well, we like to describe it as follows: our music has beauty, soul and emotion. We asked ourselves what is the essence of music? Well it’s emotion right? So we knew that we wanted that our songs were based on emotions but also transmit that emotion an of course, our songs had to be diverse. There is something for everyone. A hardcore metal fan will find tunes to his taste as well as the hardcore pop music fan up to the classical music fan. We combine all our musical inspirations and create something of our own.
M.S .: You have just released your first album “Nostalgia Part.1”, what can you tell us about it?
That’s right. After many years of hard work, we finally have it in our hands, our album. We’re very proud of it and it’s a big achievement for us on every imaginable level. As mentioned before, the album is very diverse. There’s music that can please a lot of people of different musical genres. For Nostalgia, as the name already says it, we wanted to focus on a kind of nostalgic sound hence every song is named after one emotion. The album is a story that talks about the different feelings one can feel after a break up or when a loved one suddenly leaves you and breaks up with you. That leaves you with many questions, feelings that change over time and here again, we believe that everyone experienced somehow similar things in his life. It was also important for us to keep the lyrics gender neutral. You won’t find a ‘he’ or ‘she’ in our lyrics in order for everyone to be able to relate to the words and music.
M.S .: Your album has been mixed by Eric Gillette (The Neal Morse Band), how did you contact him and how was the mixing process?
While recording our album at a friend’s home studio, we decided that we wanted someone knowing their business to mix and perhaps also master our album. We did’t
want everything done by the same person, meaning recording, mixing and mastering at the beginning in order to get an external, open minded and perhaps fresh approach to the mix and the album. We contacted all major studios in Europe and checked out our favorite albums to find out who and where they were mixed. Along the research came Eric Gillette and Andy contacted him over mail and Eric managed to convince us to let him do the job.
The mixing process was longer than expected but for us, we wanted to make our album sound as good as possible. We were satisfied with the result. The mastering was done by our friend where we also recorded the album. That gave us the possibility to have more control of the final sound.
M.S .: I find the cover created by Caio Caldas very beautiful, how did the idea come about?
Well, actually we were totally focused on the process of writing and creating music… During that time, there were a lot of things to think of. The idea of having a front cover was discussed earlier in 2018 because we needed some quality material for our Facebook page as well as a band logo.
Patrice (bass) started looking on the Internet. He contacted a dozen graphic designers around the world. The one who stood out was none other than Caio Caldas (https://cadiesart.com/home.php). Contact was made with this Brazilian artist. He obviously asked a very good question that no one in the band had thought about…what kind of cover art we wanted… As
you can imagine, conceiving a visual art over distance is not always easy and we had to trust him that he knew what he was doing. We directed Caios to this visual concept that he brilliantly executed as good as we could and as email dialogue permits. Later in 2019, the band decided to release a physical CD (released on 20.02.202) and Caios made the rest of the artwork for the physical album, which came out wonderfully.
We wanted a cover that was interesting to look at with many details that would reflect a certain nostalgic. Here again, the humans you see on the cover are gender neutral.
That was very important for us in order to reflect the music and the lyrics. For the rest, it was Caio Caldas who came up with the design. We were blown away when he sent us the project. He did an amazing job.
M.S .: “Nostalgia Part.1” evidences that there could be more parts. Will it be on the next album or do you reserve it for later?
Nostalgia was initially written as a double album. Most of the music is already written or in early development stages so to speak. The story we wanted to tell was bigger
than one album. Initially, we wanted to release a double album. During the writing process of the orchestrations, the project was just tooambitious and too big to make it all happen at the same time. We would have needed at least one more year to finish the remaining songs and record them. As we produced the album ourselves, it would have meant double the budget and not getting our music out in the world for way longer. So we decided to split the concept up in two parts and release the first half of Nostalgia. We’re already working on Nostalgia Pt.2 which will be our next album in
order to close that chapter and story since most of it is already written. But the most important thing now, or let’s say, after the confinement, is to find a new drummer in order to complete the writing process.
M.S .: Listening to your music you can see the influence of the soundtracks, of structures that are changing, the compositions. What are your main references and your influences?
Well we all listen to all kinds of musical stuff from heavy metal to classical music so to speak. There are so many musical genres that are interesting and nobody in the band wants to just limit himself to just one aspect. Andy for instance loves traditional oriental, Arabic or even Asian music up to be a big Celine Dion fan. And how could we not mention Hans Zimmer who’s one of the best score music writer of our time. This is just one example of how our musical tastes are diverse. Of course, our common ground is progressive rock so we took that and added our individual musical tastes and inspirations.Kevin’s big influences are Brian May and Santana that made im want to play the guitar. We believe this can be heard in our music. References again, there are so many. Mainly we’d say Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Anathema, Myrath, Nightwish, Within Temptation, Queen… there are so many references but also many more influences. And since everyone has so many different influences, our song structures change a lot and the compositions are often complex.
However, we always try to do what’s right for the song and what would make the song sound better or more intimate perhaps. Some songs on the album demand a more linear vocal melody in order to make it more intimate. Another song demands heavy riffs and fast guitar solos because the emotion we want to project with that particular song demands it.
M.S .: Progressive metal is a style with great acceptance in central Europe, what can
you tell us about the pro-metal scene in France?
Progressive metal is such a diverse term for a music genre that it incorporates so many aspects and musical directions somehow. In France and in Luxemburg, progressive metal is well known and there is a great acceptance in central Europe for sure. Just have a look at how many people go on a Dream Theater gig and you’ll know that there is an audience out there for that genre. We also often meet people who don’t know anything about progressive metal and listen, for instance, only to pop music. As soon as they hear the term “metal”, they are scared and
imagine growls and screaming vocals with heavy guitar sounds. But happily, lot’s of people unknown to the metal genre were very surprised while listening to our album and had a complete wrong idea about progressive metal or metal in general. And we believe that there are many more people out there that are afraid of listening to “metal” yet to an album that needs more than one listen to understand the music and hear all the nuances that it has to offer. That’s the beauty of progressive metal. It’s full of surprises and also challenging to listen to but so
rewarding once you understand it.
M.S .: In the world situation in which we find ourselves, I imagine that there are no scheduled concert dates until all this happens, but could you tell us about your live
experience in recent years?
Indeed. We have had scheduled a metal festival in Luxemburg in May, but that will be cancelled for sure. We had some more planning going on, but for the moment, there is too much uncertainty to plan any gigs. We have one in October that we hold on to for know but the future is uncertain. We hope to be on stage as soon as possible as all the bands in the world. Let’s hope for the best. Thankfully, we had a few small gigs around Luxemburg and northern France in 2019 and a big release concert in Luxemburg for the release of our album. Luckily, this was all before Covid-19 so we are lucky to have released our album just before that and also been able to perform the album livefor our local fans.
