Kreator está de actualidad. Vídeo nuevo de adelanto, disco en Enero y gira junto a Sepultura, Soilwork y Aborted a partir de Febrero. De todo ello pudimos hablar en Madrid con su líder, Mille Petrozza.

MetalSymphony: En primer lugar, darte las gracias por dedicarnos un rato de tu tiempo.
Mille Petrozza: A vosotros
M.S.: El 27 de enero se pone a la venta “Gods Of Violence”, ¿Qué podemos esperar de este nuevo lanzamiento?
M.P.: ¿Lo habéis escuchado ya?
M.S.: Sólo el teaser
M.P.: Sólo el Teaser? ok. Yo creo que os va a gustar. Creo que si os gustan los discos anteriores os va a resultar interesante. Es muy oscuro, con melodías muy épicas, también muy brutales. Reúne todas las facetas que representan a Kreator y una gran variedad en cuanto a sonido y melodía. Tiene una atmósfera muy seria, pero sin llegar a ser deprimente o algo así (risas) y también es muy divertido. Creo que es muy entretenido de escuchar porque… es una nueva etapa y pega fuerte, justo donde debe.
M.S.: La portada es un auténtico espectáculo, ¿con quién la habéis trabajado?
M.P.: La ilustración de la portada está hecha por Jan Meininghaus, este chico ya trabajó en la portada americana de "Phantom Antichrist" y la de "Dying Alive" y llevamos trabajado con él desde hace un tiempo. En esta ocasión nos resultó más difícil encontrar la portada perfecta porque, cuando empezamos, las primeras ideas eran más épicas, más monumentales, pero al final concluimos con esta portada, más entre surrealista y casi infernal, donde te sientes en mitad del Infierno, el Infierno de Dante y eso era justo lo que intentábamos conseguir.
M.S.: ¿Capta entonces la esencia musical del álbum?
M.P.: Sí, totalmente. Está muy ligada al disco.
M.S.: ¿Cuándo vamos a poder escuchar un tema entero de adelanto?
M.P.: El viernes, este viernes (18 de Noviembre) con el nuevo vídeo. Es muy espectacular, va a estar genial, os va a gustar. Trata del nacimiento de este demonio (señala a la portada de Violent Revolution), va a nacer y va a ser espeluznante porque fue concebido en una antigua orgía (risas). Es todo muy metafórico y va a ser muy divertido.
M.S.: Mucha gente piensa que desde “Violent Revolution” en adelante estáis viviendo una especie de segunda juventud, o segunda época dorada. ¿Crees que estáis en el mejor momento de vuestra carrera?
M.P.: ¡Sí! Yo creo… bueno, ¡los 90 ya han acabado! Desde “Violent Revolution”, grabamos este disco en 2001… Los 90 no fueron la mejor época para el Metal, creo, y la Comunidad (del Metal) tuvo que redefinirse, en mi opinión. Tuvo que ser, tuvo que venir la nueva generación para despertar a la Vieja Generación (refiriéndose a los nuevos tours de las viejas glorias). Y ahora es estupendo ser un fan del metal en estos nuevos tiempos.
M.S.: Este será vuestro decimocuarto álbum de estudio, ¿Qué queda de aquellos chavales que formaron Tormentor?
M.P.: Somos los mismos! O sea, nuestra idea es seguir teniendo 17 años toda nuestra vida!. A veces es duro, porque necesitas que tu cuerpo también esté acorde a ese propósito, pero acaba siendo un reto (risas). Actualmente somos chavales de 17 años más cabales. Cuando teníamos realmente 17 eramos más alocados, en el mal sentido… Bueno, no en el mal sentido, pero sí en un sentido más peligroso si hubiéramos mantenido aún esa actitud.
M.S.: La gira la empezáis en Febrero junto a Sepultura, Soilwork y Aborted, un cartel de auténtico lujo. ¿Cómo surge la posibilidad de una gira de tal envergadura?
M.P.: Siempre tuvimos la idea de hacer un Tour con Sepultura, porque hemos sido amigos desde siempre. Hicimos un tour hace tiempo, en 1991, pero fue un tour sólo en Alemania. Esta vez tenemos un Tour Europeo como debe ser y creo que la Comunidad del Metal se merece una noche de Sepultura junto a Kreator, va a ser genial.
M.S.: ¿Qué pueden esperar los fans de Kreator de cara a dicha gira?
M.P.: Un espectacular show lumínico tridimensional, mucha pirotecnia, música a tope, muchísima energía y, esperemos, muchos stage diving, circle pits y todas esas cosa típicas por las que nuestro publico es conocido.
M.S.: Dos días después de tocar en Madrid, actuáis en la sala Bataclan de París, ¿Qué sentimientos os despierta esto después de lo allí ocurrido?
M.P.: Escribí una canción sobre ello en el nuevo disco. Es la primera, la canción con la que empieza el álbum. Por supuesto que fue una horrible tragedia. Actualmente el terror está en todas partes y la Tragedia de Bataclan fue la primera vez en que este Terror golpea en la subcultura musical… Nuestra subcultura musical, sabes?. Yo no me considero unos de los mayores fans de Eagles of Death Metal, pero podría haber estado en ese concierto si hubiera estado en París aquella noche. Cualquiera de nosotros podría haber estado en ese concierto y esto te demuestra lo fácilmente que puede acabar todo si te cruzas con la gente equivocada… Pero no debemos temerles, debemos ir a hacer conciertos en la sala Bataclan, y celebrar la vida y la música, y seguir vivos, como gente de paz, no como gente aterrorizada. Entiendes?
M.S.: Tras más de treinta años en activo, ¿Cómo se conserva la energía y las ganas en un mundo cada vez más complicado para la cultura?
M.P.: La música me mantiene fresco y joven de corazón. Creo que esa es la clave, tienes que centrarte en lo que de verdad importa y eso es la música en si misma, y la Comunidad, la chispa y el entusiasmo que el Metal produce. Creo que no hay nada peor que una banda que ya está aburrida. Nosotros no estamos aburridos de nuestra música aún, no estamos cansados de nuestros fans ni de nada que tenga que ver con el Metal y con su universo. Estamos realmente felices de estar donde estamos, somos unos privilegiados y nos sentimos muy bien. Es un intercambio, nosotros tomamos la energía que nos llega del publico, de sus reacciones, de todos los fans del Metal de todo el mundo y tratamos de absorberla y devolverla a través de nuestra música.
M.S.: ¿Cuál es vuestra postura acerca de la piratería? ¿Qué os parecen las plataformas de streaming como Spotify?
M.P.: Yo no tengo Spotify, esto no quiere decir que… Deja que lo diga de esta forma: por supuesto que a nadie le gusta que le roben sus música, pero yo sé que hay mucha gente que viene a nuestros conciertos y que se han descargado de forma ilegal nuestra música, y aún así son más que bienvenidos a cantar y a celebrar la música con nosotros. Si no tienen los medios económicos para comprar los discos, sabes?. Hay gente en el mundo que tiene peores problema que andar comprando discos y nosotros vamos a estos lugares, por ejemplo Sudamérica, donde las personas ganan lo justo y no pueden permitirse comprar discos, en su caso está bien que lo descarguen, vengan al concierto y formen parte de todo. Todo el mundo es bienvenido, jamás excluiría a nadie porque no hayan comprado el disco.
Estamos en una era diferente. Cuando yo era un chaval, uno de mis amigos se compraba el disco de, por ejemplo, Judas Priest o Kiss, y yo me lo grababa en cinta (casete), y si yo iba a la tienda de discos otro día, compraba un disco diferente y se lo pasaba a él, por lo que resultaba un intercambio, la música es para todo el mundo. Llegará un día que las descargas ilegales acabaran matando la música, por lo que yo recomiendo, por el bien de todo el Universo del Metal, que se siga comprando la música, para mantenerla viva… siempre que puedas permitírtelo.
M.S.: Por nuestra parte nada más, si quieres dedicarles unas palabras a los fans este es el momento. Muchas gracias por tu tiempo. Ha sido un placer.

Kreator is up to date. New preview video, new album in January and tour with Sepultura, Soilwork and Aborted from February. Of all this we were able to speak in Madrid with his leader, Mille Petrozza.
MetalSymphony: First of all, thank you very much for your time, we really apreciate it.
Mille Petrozza: Thank to you too
M.S.: Next January the twenty seventh will be released your new album “Gods of violence”. What can you tell us about it? , wa should we expect on it?
M.P.: Have you heard it yet?
M:S.: Only the teaser
M.P.: Only the "teaser"? ok. I think you’ll gonna like it. I think if you like the previous albums it could be interesting for you. It’s very dark, very epic melodic, very brutal also, and it has all the facets that Kreator stands for and very variety in the sounds and music and it has a very serious atmosfear, but without being depressive or anything (laughs) and it’s also lots of fun. I thins it’s a lot of fun to listen to because it goes really like … It’s all a new face and it hits you right where you deserve it.
M.S.: I must say that the cover is spectacullar. Who made it?
M.P.: The cover artwork is done by Jan Meininghaus, the guy who also worked for the american cover for of "Phantom Antichrist" and the "Dying Alive" artwork, and we’ve been working with him for quite a while. It was a little hard to find the right cover by this time because, when we started the first ideas where more epic, more monumental, but then we came with this surreal almost-hell artwork where you feel like you’re in the middle of the Inferno, of Dante´s Inferno and that’s what we were trying to achive.
M.S.: So it does capture the essence of the album?
M.P.: Yes, very much. It’s linked to the album.
M.S.: When will we have the chance to listen to a full song of the new album?
M.P.: Friday, this Friday with the new video. Is very spectacular, it’s gonna be good, you’ll gonna like it. It’s the birth of this Demon (points to the cover of Violent Revolution), it’s going to come to life and it’s quite scary because he is made in an ancient orgy (laughs). It’s very metaphoric and it’s a lot of fun to watch.
M.S.: Since "Violent Revolution" the band seems to be living a Golden Age,or a comeback, do you agree with that? That you are now at the best moment in your career?
M.P.: Yeah! I think, you know, the 90’s are over!. Since “Violent Revolution”, we recorded the album in 2001… 90’s wasn’t the best time for Metal, I guess, and the Comunity had to redefine itself, I believe. There had to be, to come the New generation to wake up the Old Generation again (referring to the new tours of the old glories). And now is great to be a metalhead nowadays.
M.S.: This new album is the fourteenth studio record. What is left of the guys that stared Tormentor?
M.P.: We are the same! You know, the thing is that we try to be 17 all our lifes!. It’s hard sometimes because your body needs to be also in shape for that but it’s a challenge (laughs). We are more controlled 17 year olds nowadays. When we where the real age of 17 we where more crazy in a bad way… Not in a bad way, in a dangerous way if we had still lived that way.
M.S.: You are begining your tour in January, togheter with Sepultura, Soilwork and Aborted. How did you get the chance to share the stage with such great bands?
M.P.: We’ve allways planed doing a tour with Sepultura, beacuse we’ve been friends forever. We did a tour with them once, in 1991, but it was only a short tour in Germany. This time we have a real european Tour and I think the Metal Comunity deserves a night of Kreator and Sepultura, it’s gonna be good.
M.S.: What will the fans of Kreator find in this new tour?
M.P.: Spectacullar tree-dimensional Light show, lots of phyrotechnics, a lot of loud music, a lot of energy and, hopefully a lot of stage diving, circle pits and all of this Old School things that the audience is known for.
M.S.: Two days after the tour dates in Madrid, you’ll be performing at the Bataclan theatre in Paris, do you have any thoughts and/or feelings about the place after what happened a year ago?
M.P.: I wrote a song in the new album talking about it. It’s the first, the opening track. Of course, it was a horrible tragedy. Terror is everywhere nowadays and the Bataclan Tragedy was the first time that it hits the subcultural world of music… Music that we all love, you know, I was never the biggest fan of Eagles of Death Metal but I could have been at that show if I was in Paris that night, we all could have been at that show and it shows you how quick life can be over if you run into the wrong people … but we should not be affraid of them, we should go to the Bataclan and play, and celebrate life and celebrate music and be alive and be people of peace, instead of people in fear. You know what I mean?
M.S.: After more than 30 years performing, how do you keep the energy and the spirit up in a world so complicated for musicians and artists in general?
M.P.: It’s the music that keeps me flesh and young at heart. I think that’s the key, you have to focus on what’s important and that’s music itself, and the Comunity and the spark and the enthusiasm that comes with the Metal. I think there’s nothing worse than a bored band. We’re not bored of our music yet, and we’re not bored of our fans, or anything that has to do with Metal and the world of Metal. We are really happy to be in this place, we are really privileged and we feel like this is great. It’s an exchange, you get the energy from the audience, from the reactions you get from the audience, from the Metal People all around the world and we try to absorb and give it back trough our music.
M.S.: You, as musicians, must have an opinion about Piracy and ilegal downloads. what is your opinion in such matter? Do you agree with other more legal ways of sharing music like streaming websites such as Spotify?
M.P.: I’m not on Spotify, but it’s not that I’m … Let me put it this way: of course, nobody wants it’s music to be stollen, but I know that there’s some people that comes to our shows and they’ve illegally downloaded our music, and they’re more than welcome to come and sing and celebrate the music with us. If they don’t have the money tu buy the records, you know?. There’s people in the world that have different problems than buying music and sometimes we go this places, let’s say in South America, where people only make a certain amount and they can’t afford to buy the music, for them is good to download it, come to the show and be part of this. Everybody is welcome, I wouldn’t exclude people only because they haven’t bought the record. It’s a different Era nowadays. When I was a Kid, one of my friends would go and buy the Vynil of, let’s say, Judas Priest or Kiss and I would tape it, and if I would go to the record store I would buy a different record and give him my album, so it’s an exchange, the music is for everyone. Illegal download would eventually kill the music, so I would recomend, for the shake of the whole Metal world, to keep buying music, to keep this music alive, if you can afford it.
