Antes de su visita con Powerwolf entrevistamos a Morten, batería de Amaranthe para que nos presente el último disco del grupo "Helix" como les ha ido la primera parte de la gira junto a los lobos, y que nos espera a nosotros en menos de un mes… Esto es lo que nos cuenta.

M.S: Hola, bienvenido a Metal Symphony gracias por atendernos, ¿qué tal estás?
¡Hola! Morten de Amaranthe al habla. ¡Estoy bien gracias! Actualmente en el segundo último día de nuestra gira europea, cansado, pero en general, ¡todo funciona sin problemas!
M.S: Este año cumplís 10 años en activo, ¿cómo ves la unidad del grupo a día de hoy?
En realidad es mejor que nunca. Todo dentro y alrededor de la banda está funcionando mejor que nunca. Nuestro álbum "Helix" ha sido muy bien recibido por nuestros fans y podemos ver claramente que ya hemos ganado muchos nuevos fans.
M.S: Aunque en todo este tiempo habéis cambiado varias veces las voces, ¿crees que es ésta actual la mejor formación de Amaranthe?
¡Sí, por su puesto! Tanto Mild como Henrik han sido una actualización para el sonido general y las actuaciones en vivo también. Nils es el miembro más nuevo e hizo un trabajo fenomenal en el álbum, ¡y en vivo es increíble!
M.S: ¿Haréis algo especial para celebrarlo?
Bueno, continuaremos avanzando y definitivamente tenemos planes para un DVD en directo en algún momento.
M.S: Habéis editado 5 discos en diez años, ¿crees que es un buen balance? ¿Seguiréis este ritmo?
En realidad nuestro primer álbum fue lanzado en 2011, ¡así que son menos de 10 años! Es difícil decir cómo será en el futuro, pero mientras la maquinaria Amaranthe funcione sin problemas y la inspiración esté definitivamente allí para seguir escribiendo álbumes de gran calidad, ¡entonces no veo porqué no!
M.S: El último en salir hace poco ha sido Helix, ¿cómo ves este trabajo con respecto a los anteriores?
Creo que el álbum en su conjunto tiene una identidad mucho más clara que algunos de nuestros álbumes anteriores. El "ADN" de Amaranthe brilla a través de la hélice (pista: ¡el título!) Tuvimos un tiempo complicado después de cambiar de cantante, pero también sembró la semilla para un nuevo comienzo y una inspiración renovada. Así que creo que Helix dibuja diferentes cosas del primer par de álbumes junto con un nuevo sonido y una progresión natural.
M.S: ¿Qué tal se ha integrado Nils Molin a las voces? ¿Como has visto la evolución de su trabajo en este tiempo?
Todo vino de forma tan natural! No creo que él realmente tuviera que adaptarse demasiado, porque encajaba en todo el sonido de forma natural, incluso en las viejas canciones. Es diferente a Jake, por supuesto, y él pone su propio sabor tanto en las canciones antiguas como en las nuevas con mucha energía.
M.S: ¿En qué medida afecta esto a Dynazty, queda ahora en un segundo plano, compaginará ambas bandas…?
Bueno, por ahora es capaz de mantener el equilibrio con ambas bandas. Dynazty no está de gira tanto como Amaranthe, así que cada vez que hay un hueco en la agenda de Amaranthe, generalmente toca con Dynazty.
M.S: Ya habéis dado varias fechas en directo con él, ¿qué tal encajáis en el escenario?
Simplemente encaja de forma muy natural, y lo hizo desde el principio. Ya ha hecho muchas giras con Amaranthe, incluso antes del lanzamiento del álbum Helix, ¡por lo que ya es un veterano! Me siento súper seguro con él como uno de nuestros frontmans.
M.S: Ahora mismo estáis de gira con Powerwolf y con algunos soldouts ya… Imaginamos que estáis contentos, ¿cómo la estáis viviendo?
¡Sí! ¡Ha sido una gira realmente increíble! ¡Casi en todos los shows se han agotado las entradas! Y en los bastante grandes también. Normalmente entre 2.000 – 6.000 personas en cada show. Para nosotros ha sido realmente bueno mostrar nuestra música a potenciales nuevos fans, ya que solo hemos estado haciendo giras como cabezas de cartel por un tiempo.
M.S: En enero llegaréis a España… ¿qué podemos esperar de este combo?
Esperad una actuación con toda nuestra energía! No tocamos un show completo, así que daremos todo lo que tenemos en 50 minutos! Viejas canciones y nuevas canciones!
M.S: Os ha quedado muy bien “Army Of The Night”, cuéntanos un poco la historia ¿cómo surgió la idea de versionarla y cómo hicisteis las adaptaciones? ¿Es probable que la podamos escuchar en directo?
Sí, fue bastante divertido grabar! En realidad, fuimos yo y Jacob Hansen (productor) quienes empezamos a trabajar en la canción. Básicamente encontramos la canción en Spotify, le aumentamos el ritmo y simplemente la toqué a mi manera, tocando la batería como yo quería. Pasaron alrededor de 30 minutos y se hizo! Luego, el resto de la banda se adaptó a la batería y la canción quedó terminada.

M.S: Hello, welcome to Metal Symphony and thanks for answering our questions. How are you?
Hi there! You got Morten here from Amaranthe. I’m good thanks! Currently on the second last day of our European tour, but tired but overall everything is running smooth!
M.S: This year you will have been active for 10 years, how do you see the unity of the group today?
It’s better than ever before actually. Everything within the band and around the band is working better than ever before, our album “helix” has been very well received by our fans and we can clearly see that we have already gained lots of new fans.
M.S: Although in all this time you have changed the voices several times, do you think that this is the best Amaranthe’s lineup?
Yes for sure! Both mild and henrik has been an upgrade to the overall sound and live performance wise as well. Nils is the newest member and he did a phenomenal job on the album, and live he is incredible!
M.S: Will you do something special to celebrate it?
Well we will continue to push forward, and we definitely have plans on a live dvd at some point.
M.S: You have released 5 albums in ten years, do you think it’s a good balance? Will you follow this pace?
Actually our first album was released in 2011, so it’s less than 10 years!
It’s difficult to say how it will be in the future, but as long as the whole Amaranthe machine is running smooth and the inspiration is definitely there to keep writing high quality albums, so I see why not!
M.S: The last one to be released recently was Helix, how do you see this work as compared with the previous ones?
I think the album as a whole has a much clear identity than some of our past albums. The Amaranthe “dna” shines through as a whole on helix (hint, the title!)
We had a bit of a turbulent time after changing singer, but it also planted the seed for a whole new beginning and renewed inspiration. So I think helix draws different events from the first couple of albums along with a new sound and a natural progression.
M.S: How has Nils Molin integrated into the voices? How have you seen the evolution of his work in this time?
It all came so natural. I don’t think he really had to adapt too much, because he just fit into the whole sound naturally, even the old songs. It’s different than Jake of course and he puts his own flavor into both the old and the new songs with lots of energy!
M.S: How does this affect Dynazty? Will it now be relegated into the background? Will he combine both bands …?
Well for now he is able to balance both bands. Dynazty is not touring as much as Amaranthe, so whenever there is a gap in Amaranthe’s touring schedule, he usually plays with dynazty.
M.S: You have already announced several tour dates with him, how do you fit in with each other on stage?
He just fits in very naturally, and he did from the very beginning. He has already done quite a lot of touring with Amaranthe even before the helix album release, so he is a veteran by now! I feel super safe with him as one of the frontmen/women
M.S: Right now you are on tour with Powerwolf and with some sold-outs already … We guess you are really happy, how are you living this?
Yeah! It’s been quite an amazing tour really! Almost all shows has been sold out! And pretty big ones too. Usually between 2.000 – 6.000 people at each show. For us it has been really good to expose our music to potential new fans, since we have only been doing headlining tours for some time
M.S: In January you will arrive in Spain … what can we expect from this combo?
Expect a high energy all out performance from us! We don’t play a full show, so we will give all we got for 50 minutes! Old songs and new songs!
M.S: "Army Of The Night" has turned out really well. Tell us a bit more about the history, how did the idea of versioning it come up and how did you make the adaptations? Will we probably be able to listen to it live?
Yeah it was quite fun to record! It was actually me and Jacob Hansen (producer) that started working on the song. We basically found the song on Spotify, turned up the tempo and I just played along to it in my own way, just playing the drums the way I wanted. Spend around 30 minutes and it was done! then afterwards the rest of the band adapted to the drums and the song was done.
