Hola Tarja, es un placer contar con una de las grandes voces que ha dado este estilo en mucho tiempo, gracias por compartir un poco de tu tiempo con nosotros, que tal estás?
Gracias por esas palabras tan cariñosas. Estoy realmente bien, trabajando día a día como siempre, pero feliz.
Ya son 7 años los que llevas con tu propuesta en solitario, que nos ofreces de nuevo con este Colours in the dark? a parte del mensaje ya optimista que podemos ver en el título..
Es mi tercer album de rock y creo que por fin he encontrado mi sonido. El albúm es un reflejo de lo que quiero decir y hacer como artista. Es una combinación de un grupo de sonido heavy con una orquestra sinfónica y mi voz con tonos clásicos
. Como yo misma produzco los cds y escribo casi todo el material, es un album muy importante para mí.
Has sido madre, colaboracion con WT, con Angra, directos en el MFVF el año pasado…. podríamos decir que estás en el mejor momento de tu carrera?
Me lo estoy pasando muy bien en este momento de mi Carrera. Hay algunos planes muy bonitos para el futuro también así que no puedo quejarme. Ni que decir que me siento muy afortunada.
Nos resultó curioso e interesante los conciertos que diste con Terrana bajo el nombre Beauty and the Beat, que recuerdo tienes de la experiencia?
Esos conciertos fueron geniales. Grabamos un dvd en la Republica Checa así que dentro de muy poco veréis como fue. Vamos a continuar con el proyecto en 2015 después de la gira de Colours in the Dark. Nos encantaría venir a España con Beauty and The Beat.
Otro de los grandes momentos del año pasado fue en tu concierto en metal female voices fest en Bélgica, que recuerdo te llevaste del festival? Imaginamos que fue un honor ser el grupo que lo cerrase,no?
No era la primera vez que cerraba el festival pero como siempre fue un honor y un placer participar en él. Es un sitio realmente especial. Invité a FloorJansen a que cantara conmigo en una canción y nos divertimos mucho.
Protagonizando también otro momento mágico del festival como fue el duo con Floor Jansen en el Over the Hills and Far Away, mostrando el cariño y el respeto que os tenéis las dos…. además, también intercambiasteis Anette y tu, así que digamos que presente y pasado vocal de Nigthwish está en paz, verdad?
Nunca ha habido ningún problem en ese sentido ni entre las/os cantantes de la banda.
En este mes de febrero contamos con tu visita en España presentando tu nuevo álbum “Colours in the Dark”. ¿Nos puedes contar un poco sobre el show que nos vas a ofrecer en tu gira?
Los conciertos en España son parte de la gira que haré en otros países de Europa con este trabajo, así que tocaremos más o menos el mismo setlist en España. Como siempre, mis conciertos son muy intensos y llenos de emociones así que espero pasarlo bien con mis amigos españoles
De cara a tus conciertos por España, ¿nos podrías anunciar qué músicos que te acompañarán?. Imagino que contigo vendrá el gran Mike Terrana ¿No?
MIKE TERRANA en la batería , ALEX SCHOLPP como guitarra , CHRISTIAN KRETSCHMAR en los teclados, MAX LILJA el celo, y ANNA PORTALUPI en el bajo.Estos músicos llevan tocando conmigo varios años de gira. Anna se unió el pasado octubre y está bien tener otra chica en el grupo.
Resides en Argentina, país hermano, pues tu marido es argentino. Y te he escuchado en alguna que otra entrevista y la verdad es que tu español es muy bueno. ¿Podremos contar en el futuro con algún trabajo tuyo cantado en español? ¿Sería genial?
Ya lo hice en mi anterior trabajo “What Lies Beneath”. Esa canción estaba incluida en la versión americana y se llama “Montañas de Silencio”. Hay un canción en Colours in the Dark, Mystique Voyage, que contiene algunas partes es español también. Me encanta cantar en diferentes idiomas y el español es uno de ellos.
Que le pides para tu carrera musical en este 2014? Son ya 7 años como decimos, disco en directo, giras por Finlandia, que ambición o sueño le queda por cumplir a Tarja Turunen?
Oh, me encanta mi trabajo así que espero se cumplan mucho más sueños como artista. Trabajo sin descanso porque la música me hace feliz. Espero poder seguir haciéndolo mientras viva y que mi familia sea tan comprensiva conmigo como lo han sido hasta ahora.

Hi Tarja, it is a real pleasure to be with one of the great voices of this style of all times. Thanks for sharing a bit of your time with us. First of all, how are you?
Thank you very much for the kind words! I am really fine, working daily as usual, but happy.
7 years ago you started your solo career. What are you offering the fans with “Colours in the dark”, besides the positive and optimistic message we see in the title?
It is my third rock album and I think I have finally found my sound. The album is a reflection of what I want to say and do as an artist. It is a combination of heavy sounding band with symphonic orchestra and my classically trained voice. as I am producing my albums and writing most of the material on my own, it is truly very important album to me.
In 2012 you had a baby, collaborated with Within Temptation and with Angra, had shows in MFVF,new cd, tours…. could we say that you are having the best moment of your career?
I am having great fun at the moment in my career. There are many nice plans for the future too so I cannot complain. needless to say, but I feel very blessed.
The concerts you had last year with Terrana under the name of Beauty and the Beat were strange and interesting, what do you remember from that experience?
Those concerts were amazing! we filmed a dvd in czech republic, so you will get to see pretty soon what was going on. We are also going to continue with the project in 2015 after all the tours with colours in the dark album have finished. We would really love to be able to make concerts in spain with beauty and the beat.
Another great moment we saw last year was your show in the Metal Female Voices Fest in Belgium. What do you remember form the festival? I assume it was an honor to be the band who closed it, wasn’t it?
It was not the first time I was closing the festival, but as always it was an honor and pleasure to take part in this festival. it is a quite special event. I invited floorjansen to sing with me in one song and we had lot of fun.
One of the highlights from the festival was your duet with Floor Jansen singing Over the Hills and Far Away, showing the affection and respect you have for each other. Also, you and Annette were interchangeing some internet messages, so we can say the vocal past and present of Nightwish is in peace.
There has never been a problem in that end and between the vocalists of the band.
In February you will be in Spain presenting your new cd “Colours in the Dark”, is there anything you can tell us about the show you will be doing?
The shows in spain are part of the tour I am doing in other countries in europe with my album, so we will playing more or less the same set list in these spanish concerts. As always, my shows are very passionate and emotional so I am expecting to have amazing time with my spanish friends.
In your shows in Spain, could you tell us which musicians will be with you? I guess Mike Terrana will be in the gigs too, right?
Mike Terrana on drums, Alex Scholpp guitars, Christian Kretschmar keyboards, Max Lilja cello and Anna Portalupi on bass. Majority of these musicians have been playing with me several years on tours. only anna joined me on last october and it is nice for me to have another girl on board.
You live in Argentina as your husband is Argentinian. I have listened to you in some interviews and your Spanish is really good. Is there a possibility in the future of you singing a track in Spanish?
I have done it already on my previous album what lies beneath. that track was included on the us version of the album and is called montañas de silencio. Also there is a song in colours in the dark called mystique voyage with some parts in spanish as well. I love singing in different languages and spanish is one of them.
What are your musical expectations for the new year? As we said, after 7 years, live cd, tours in Finland, what ambitions or dreams are pending for Tarja Turunen?
oh, I just love my work so I expect to have many more dreams fulfilled as an artist. I am working all the time because music makes me happy. I hope I can keep on doing so as long as I live and that my family can be as supportive as they have been to me already.
