BONFIRE |
Second german band of the night, a classic hard rock band and maybe the most
important european band of the 80’s. It would be possible to said that they
were the most «heavies» of the night.
A great ocassion to show us his new album «Double X», although they choose
a classic set list and they only played of that new album the first two tracks:
«Day 11» and «Still we Rock». Certainly it’s an interesant album, a return to
their beginnings so much different than «Free», their last album with a production
that was forgotten soon.
The place went crazy when Clauss Lessman appeared in scene. After the mentioned
tracks it was turn for the classics: «Never Mind», «Under Blue Skies» and a
medley of the two main tracks of their first album «Hot to Rock» and «Don’t
Touch the Light». An inedit track in their shows was «Tony’s Roulette» and next
a balad: «Give it a Try». «American Nights» as it’s usual and «Hard on Me»,
where we can verify the humour sense of the vocalist playing with water and
his microphone with his bandmates, in special with Hans Ziller, lead guitar
and his eternal partner in Bonfire (they both were founder members).
The rest of the band don’t suffered the «pranks» of the vocalist in the chase
of Chris Limburg because is so new in Bonfire yet. More time in the band have
the drummer Jurgen Wiehler although really all the band form a perfect unity.
Other hymns are «Sweet Obssesion» and «Give me Action». And to end the show
the fantastic «Bang Down your Door». I’s peculiar but Bonfire are accostomed
to change his set list in the different shows and they always surprise us.
We trust they return to Spain soon to see them again playing for all us. Good
Job. KEEP THE BONFIRE BURNING

GOTTHARD |
We were well into the evening, when the Swiss band, Gotthard, came on stage
in the middle of a light explosions. A band who’s living their golden age, due
to fame knocking on their door after more than a decade of hard work. They’ve
seen their success highlighted with their last cd «Lipservice», and the live
edition of their album «Made in Switzerland».
And it was exactly from the last album the songs for the beginning of the concert
were taken from, «All we are» and «Dream on». After these ones, it was time
for «Hush», being a Deep Purple’s cover snatched by Gotthard and that makes
us wonder sometimes if it’s better the original or the version itself. The concert
went on with «Crazy mama», followed by a great song they haven’t played for
ages, «Top of the world». A couple more songs, «I wonder» and «Said and done»
preceded the beautiful ballad «Let it be»; and then, «Sister moon» stood in,
a song with blues sound. «Mighty queen» and «Firedance» followed, leading to
the last 2 songs, which made the audience give in completely, «Lift U up» and
«Anytime anywhere».
There’s little to say about Steve Lee that has not been said already: he’s
got an excelent voice and he’s an amazing showman. Another virtuous in the band,
the guitar player Leo Leoni, apart from Freddy Scherer who accompanies Leo with
the rythm guitar. Hena Habegger did a great job with the drums, and Marc Lynn
made his part with the bass pretty well. The one in charge of the orchestral
arrangements and the setting was Nicolo Fragile with the synths. A band with
a very good mutual understanding, and it’s obvious they enjoy being on stage,
which is really important in order to achieve what they already are.
For those who have not seen Gotthard live yet and like melodic rock, they shouldn’t
miss the chance to do so. A first concert by Gotthard is something that cannot
be forgotten easily, even if you haven’t heard anything of them, it’s very difficult
it goes unnoticed. We are waiting impatiently their next album.
