WINGER |
Ending the festival, we were all quite tired, but we couldn’t leave without
seeing one of the biggest AOR musicians ever. Kip Winger was a big rock star
back in the Eighties, and, after the disolution of the original line up, they
are back again with lots of energy and illusion.
This was the only non-European act in the festival, since they are from the
USA. Kip Winger, who became famous thanks to the creation of his solo band after
having played as Alice Cooper’s bassist, formed this line up together with guitar
hero Reb Beach. Excepting the guitarrist John Roth, the rest of the band are
the original members, making this act very special for all the present people,
ready to go back to the old days and watch a myth in action.
It wasn’t a very long show, but it was to be expected, seeing that British
organisers are very rigurous about time limits and schedules. Songs like «Seventeen»,
«Blind revolution mad», «You are the saint, I am the sinner», the incredible
ballad «Headed for a heartbreak» and many other classics, «Can’t get enuff»,
«Easy come easy go» or «Madeleine», mixed with songs of their last album like
«IV», «Generica» and «Great scape» formed a very complete set list, without
forgetting two spectacular solos made in Reb and Rod. Without a shed of a doubt,
Kip has been able to put together a fantastic quintet and, eventhough it is
his solo band, the generous and gentelman bassist shared the frontmanship with
all the members during the length of the concert.
Yes, everyone was really exhausted, but we all found energy to sing along with
the band and to end the festival in a tremendous and fascinating way. Good band
performance, good crowd response, and an impecable show for every assistant’s
memory.
